Here are some of the many ministries at Spring Valley UMC. Whether you find yourself in a place of need, are interested in serving others, or simply have questions about where to connect in discipleship community, this list will help provide answers.
Join our dedicated group of volunteers who choose to serve others with respect and compassion in our Saturday breakfast, or become a valued volunteer and help us change the lives of our neighbors in need during Food Pantry and Clothing Ministry.
We provide a free breakfast to anyone in the community every Saturday morning. We provide a hot dinner to anyone in the community every Thursday evenings from 6:30pm to 8:00pm.
We supply groceries and related services to families and individuals in local communities affected by food insecurity in our Food Pantry Ministry every Saturday from 10:30am-12:30pm.
Thanks to the support of The Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York / Food Bank of the Hudson Valley. We have been able to extend our reach by serving hundreds of hungry and disadvantages people in the Spring Valley community. We can now make tax deductible online donations for the food bank, where $1 donated buys $15 in the food bank. Adopt-A-program- United Methodist Church of Spring Valley and Food Pantry ( #2416F) and Saturday Breakfast (#2417S).
Our Clothing Shop Ministry demonstrates Christ’s love, in a practical way, by providing free clothing and shoes to those in need in our community
We welcome all types of in-season clothing, including athletic socks, new packaged underwear, coats, shoes, and like-new student backpacks. The greatest ongoing needs are men's T-shirts and jeans, maternity clothes, and children’s clothes. During the winter, we need coats, especially for children. We accept household items, including bed linens, towels and dishes. We also accept donations of silverware, utensils and cookware. We do not accept electronic equipment, furniture, or appliances.
All donations must be in good condition and freshly washed or dry-cleaned. Package items in small to medium sized trash bags so our volunteers may easily lift them. Close bags to avoid spilling. Bring donation during clothing ministry hours on Saturdays or after worship service on Sundays.
Donations are tax-deductible. Ask for receipts when donations are given. You may also call the church office to request a receipt to be mailed to you.
